The Rhode Island John Brown Gun Club believes in fighting for the fundamental liberation of all working-class people in our communities. Our view of community defense is that it must always be on the side of those most in danger of economic, physical, and psychological danger or it is not community defense. We see ourselves as part of a long history of movements, organizations, and individuals that have fought for justice against the oppressive forces that have existed in the United States since the earliest days of the colonies.
We believe that wealth inequality, white supremacy, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, anti-semitism, islamophobia, xenophobia, and religious fundamentalism are all part of an ever-expanding list of maladies that must be removed from our communities so that liberty may flourish. We see ourselves as being only one part of that fight, and always defer to the individuals, organizations, and communities facing the worst violations of their freedoms and liberties.

We believe survivors. Sexual violence has always been a key obstacle to the unity and liberation of working-class and oppressed communities. For too long cover-ups, justifications, and denials have been the norm regarding how these attacks are handled and it has led every time to a false unity always ready to fall apart that has ultimately destroyed many communities, organizations, and individuals.
We believe that preparation in all forms of self-defense, all forms of community and individual self-reliance, and all forms of emergency survival must be taught and practiced as part of the wider fight for liberation. Working-class people can only rely on each other as politicians and business leaders will always do what is ultimately best for them in a given moment, which is almost always against the needs of working-class people and our communities.
